FROM IDEA TO REALITY: THE EVOLUTION OF WOODBRIDGE TOGETHER
Woodbridge Together's first project was a holiday card project. We collected all kinds of holiday cards from the residents of Woodbridge and brought them to the Willows, a nursing facility in our town. This project was a huge success with over 100 cards donated!!!
On March 13th 2020, Covid-19 affected our town, the schools closed, town hall closed, our town stopped. On March 13th 2021, we changed that day into something hopeful. Everything in our project was symbolic from the day of the event to the luminaria kits. We sold luminaria kits so people could display luminaria at their house and all of the profits went toward the Woodbridge Rotary's Covid-19 Relief Fund. There were two types of kits sold, the Woodbridge Together kit and the Together kit. The Woodbridge Together kit was sold for $20 and contained 18 luminaria. The Together kit was sold for $10 and contained 8 luminaria. We chose the specific numbers 18 and 8 because that is the amount of letters in Woodbridge Together and Together, respectively.
Throughout the entire process raised $3,000 for the Woodbridge Rotary's Covid-19 Relief Fund. On the day of the event we set up hundreds of luminaria around town. We donated luminaria to the fire department and the police department as a thank you to the first responders for keeping our town safe during these hard times. We also donated luminaria to multiple houses of worship and schools. On the town green we spelt out Woodbridge Together with luminaria and had a virtual event with guest speakers. We had first selectman Beth Heller, Police Chief Cappiello, Amity High School Principle Anna Mahon, and Rotary President Anna Dickerson speak. The Luminaria project was an amazing success and we can't wait to continue our annual project.
